Newsweek Names Wentworth-Douglass Among Top 200 Hospitals in U.S.

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital has been named among the best hospitals in the United States, vaulting into the Top 200, according to Newsweek’s 2022 “World’s Best Hospitals” rankings.

It was the only hospital on the Seacoast to make the list, jumping 26 spots from its ranking of 217th in 2021.

Wentworth-Douglass was ranked 191st among the 441 American hospitals ranked on the publication’s US-based list. There are over 6,000 hospitals in the United States, according to the American Hospital Association.

“To once again be honored by a publication like Newsweek is truly humbling.  It’s really a testament to our employees. They have an unwavering commitment to high-quality, safety, and patient experience,” said Jeff Hughes, President and CEO of Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. “When you put patients first, it’s always rewarding to see the hard work and dedication of our physicians, nurses and all staff gaining national recognition.”

The publication also noted that Wentworth-Douglass performed “above average” in its infection prevention measures.

“The goal of this study is to provide the best data-based comparison of hospital reputation and performance across countries. We hope this will be useful not only to patients and families seeking the best care for themselves and loved ones, but also to hospitals as they benchmark themselves against their peers during a period of unprecedented change,” said Newsweek Global Editor-In-Chief Nancy Cooper on the publication’s website.

The rankings were compiled by market and consumer data company Statista. The company used three main data sources for the evaluation including surveys distributed to over 80,000 medical experts in 27 countries, patient experience surveys, and key performance indicators (like patient safety, hygiene measures, and quality of treatment).
