The New Hampshire Hospital Association (NHHA) recently honored Charles Blitzer, MD of Seacoast Orthopedics & Sports Medicine and Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover with the 2015 Medical Staff of the Year Award during the association’s Annual Meeting at the Omni Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods.
The Medical Staff Award is an honor bestowed upon a medical staff member from a New Hampshire hospital who devotes him- or herself to excellence in health care.
“When it came time to nominate Dr. Blitzer for this award,” said NHHA President Steve Ahnen, “his nominators were proud to highlight his unwavering commitment to quality, and his dedication to making changes that improve the care delivered.”
Dr. Blitzer was recognized for his commitment to delivering compassionate, high quality care to patients throughout the state of New Hampshire and beyond. Well known for his humanitarian efforts by his friends and colleagues, Dr. Blitzer has helped families all across the globe as a disaster first responder performing life-saving surgeries in Africa, Mongolia, Central America, and Haiti. Most recently, his skills were requested by the International Medical Corps in Nepal days after the devastating earthquake that hit last April, where he assisted families and medical personnel in the recovery effort.
“We are thrilled that the NHHA chose such a well-respected and revered physician for this award. He has helped so many patients – both locally in our community and afar in his mission trips to underserved populations. This recognition also goes beyond his skill as a surgeon –it recognizes the time he gives to many organizations and his passion for always wanting to improve care,” said Gregory Walker, FACHE, President & CEO of Wentworth-Douglass Health System.
