Wentworth-Douglass Hospital welcomes Dr. Amy Bessnow

Bessnow_Amy.jpgDOVER, NH -- Amy Bessnow, MD, MPH, joins Wentworth-Douglass Hospital’s Seacoast Cancer Center, specializing in hematology and medical oncology, which includes the diagnosis and treatment of cancers and blood disorders.

Prior to joining Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, Dr. Bessnow was Clinical Director of the Massachusetts General Hospital/North Shore Cancer Center where she focused on the treatment of both non-cancerous and cancerous blood disorders and general cancer oncology. She was previously a staff physician in hematology-oncology at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.  

Working with the global healthcare organization Partners in Health, Bessnow designed and implemented cancer treatment programs in rural Rwanda, Malawi and Haiti to help improve the health of the local people. She also collaborated with the Rwanda Ministry of Health to design a cervical and breast cancer screening and care program.

Dr. Bessnow is board-certified in Hematology, Medical Oncology and Internal Medicine. She earned her medical degree and master of public health degree from Northwestern University in and completed her residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Dr. Bessnow also completed clinical and research fellowships in infectious disease and hematology-oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Dr. Bessnow is from Boston.
