Dr. Peter Dirksmeier is extensively trained in the operative and non-operative management of developmental, degenerative, pathologic, and traumatic conditions of the spine and hip. 

A native of New England, Dr. Dirksmeier attended Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts, on an ROTC Scholarship. Upon graduation, he was commissioned a lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and served seven years as a Marine aviator and intelligence officer before earning his medical degree at the University of Southern California. 

While completing his general surgical internship and orthopedic surgical residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Dr. Dirksmeier developed an interest in spinal surgery and hip replacement and completed an orthopedic spinal surgery fellowship under several nationally-known experts.

Dr. Dirksmeier has been involved in spinal surgery outcomes research and has published technique articles in subspecialty journals, describing hip prostheses and minimally invasive spinal surgical techniques. He has a special interest in prevention and continues to be the physician champion and medical director for the Northern New England Spine Center, a unique and multidisciplinary team approach to the care of spine patients. His elective practice is devoted to evaluating and treating spine and hip related problems

Did you know? Dr. Dirksmeier is an avid triathlete and has completed over 50 triathlons to include 13 full Ironman competitions.
